Resilient Youth Project

Resilient Youth Project

The Resilient Youth project is auspiced by DAISI and is aimed at resourcing independent students attending public high shcools in the northern region through a program of activities designed to support the students to:

  • complete their schooling and get the most out of the experience,
  • participate in constructive and wholesome community activities,
  • be able to get regular part time work,
  • make future plans for their well being and take productive steps to realise their goals.

The first stage of the project is to financially assist students living without familiy support. We provide up to $500 per student in the program. This is not cash in hand money, but support through school canteen vouchers, help for school camps, sports fees, uniforms and when needed, food and clothing vouchers.

The second stage of the project activities will be to make it possible for students to obtain their drivers licence through financial help for lessons, manuals, sitting tests, etcetera.

Also individual students will be asked to define how they would like their lives to be and to take stock of the resources they have and those they need. They will be assisteed to make a plan aimed at realising their goals, and given practical support and resources to achieve their goals. The project is run in partnership with community organisations already working with young people in the region and is designed to supplement and support them in their work.

Contact our Resilient Youth Coordinator, Colette Tierney if you would like further information about this project.
